214 children sick after lunch
MORE than 200 children in a kindergarten in central China were struck by food poisoning after having lunch on Friday.
None of them was reported in critical condition, though 61 of them were still in hospital yesterday, media reports said.
All were in stable condition, said Zhou Yong, head of the press office of Henan's health department.
A preliminary analysis suggested bacteria-related food poisoning, said Zhou.
A total of 214 children from the kindergarten in Zhoukou City, Henan Province, were affected.
The biggest kindergarten in Zhoukou served its 768 preschoolers steamed noodles, porridge and yoghurt at noon on Friday.
Three toddlers got fever, vomiting and diarrhea at 2:40pm and were sent to hospital by their parents.
At 3:15pm, the therapist at the kindergarten found 10 more cases with a fever and reported to the head teacher.
The head teacher, a kindergarten's deputy and the therapist then checked toddlers class by class and sent new cases to hospital.
After learning the cause of the incident, the kindergarten authority told parents to take their children to hospital for medical checks.
Zhoukou Central Hospital set up a task force with 18 doctors and 40 nurses as well as 80 beds to serve the young patients while Zhoukou Maternal and Child Care Service Center offered sickened infants immediate access to free medical treatment, according to the Xinhua news agency.
