23 bullet train stations for new Beijing-Shanghai railway

THE Ministry of Railway has confirmed the 23 stops on the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway which is scheduled to start commercial operation on June 20, the Beijing News reported today.

The 1,318-kilometer route from Shanghai Hongqiao Station to Beijing South Railway Station can cut the journey from more than 10 hours to 4 hours and 48 minutes at a speed of 300kph.

The ministry said the railway has stations in Langfang and Cangzhou in Hebei Province, Tianjin South Railway Station, Dezhou, Ji'nan, Tai'an, Qufu, Tengzhou and Zaozhuang in Shandong Province, Suzhou, Bengbu, Dingyuan and Chuzhou in Anhui Province, and Xuzhou, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Danyang, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou and Kunshan in Jiangsu Province.

There will be non-stop shuttles between Shanghai and Beijing. The railway authority also plans to launch direct trains from Shanghai to other major cities such as Tianjin, Ji'nan and Nanjing.

Five stations along the old railway between Beijing and Shanghai had their names changed to avoid confusion with those along the new line, the report said.
