23 rescuers arrive in worst-hit Baoxing
TWENTY-THREE rescuers from the national earthquake emergency rescue team have arrived in Baoxing, the county worst hit by Saturday's major earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
They reached the county on foot at 1pm today, said the China Earthquake Administration.
According to latest reports, an aftershock-triggered landslide cut off an important road connecting Baoxing with neighboring counties and Dujiangyan City last night.
Twenty-six people in Baoxing have been confirmed dead. Another 2,500 were reported injured and 20 remained missing as of midnight yesterday, according to the county's publicity department.
A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Sichuan at 8:02am Beijing time on Saturday, leaving at least 186 people dead and 11,393 injured, showed latest figures from the provincial emergency response command center.
