25 police attackers sentenced to jail

A COURT in southwestern Yunnan Province sentenced 25 people to prison for mobilizing a mob of 300 people to attack local police and take away a detained suspect, Yunnan Daily reported today.
Ten people received jail terms from three years to more than five years, while the rest received jail terms with probation, the Binchuan People's Court in Binchuan County was quoted as saying.
The offenders were also fined collectively 32,779 yuan (US$4,780) for causing damages to the police building.
The attack happened last October when Zi Yinglong called his relatives and friends to help him take away the alleged murderer of his son for lynching.
They besieged the police bureau and demanded officers to hand over Liu Yadong, the suspect, saying they would punish him in their own way.
