26 injured in mass fight

A BRAWL between employees of two companies over a factory ended with 26 people injured in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, local officials confirmed yesterday.
Ten of the injured were in serious condition.
The fight broke out at about 9am on Thursday and involved more than 300 people at its peak.
Shenzhen Qiushuo Investment and Development Co Ltd won a court auction to take possession of the factory that manufactures prestressed concrete pipes, but its workers were opposed entry by employees of a Beijing-based pipe producer, which claimed it was legally renting the plant from Shenzhen Taiyang PCCP Co Ltd, a municipal government spokesman said.
About 70 court officers were present to witness the handing over of the factory, but were stopped by employees of the Beijing company.
These employees then set off explosives and hurled stones at the Shenzhen Qiaoshuo workers and the court officers. Shenzhen Qiaoshuo security staff were injured but the court officers avoided injury, the spokesman said.
Later, more than 300 people from both companies began fighting with iron bars.
Police broke up the brawl after about 20 minutes. Police are investigating the case.
