TWENTY-SIX miners were killed in a plunge yesterday when the brakes failed on two elevators in a tin ore mine in central China's Hunan Province.

Five workers were injured in the accident, which was still being investigated last night.

The mine is operated by the Shanxing Antimony Industry Co Ltd in Lengshuijian City.
