27 injured as explosion rips through apartments

AT least 27 people were injured in an explosion in a six-story residential building yesterday afternoon in Baoding City, in north China's Hebei Province, local government said.
Among them, three were in critical condition, said a spokesman with the city government. All the injured were taken to hospital for treatment, added the spokesman.
Part of the building collapsed after the blast at around 3pm at the Yaoheningyuan residential community in Baoding.
Witnesses said smoke billowed out of the building following the explosion, which shattered windows in buildings 200 meters away. Rescue work was continuing last night and the cause of the blast is being investigated.
