2-month-old baby girl stolen from home in Suzhou

POLICE in Suzhou City, east China's Jiangsu Province, are searching for a 2-month-old baby girl who was reported missing from home on the night of August 7.

Her parents allege that the girl was stolen from their home in Suzhou's Jinxing Village. Police have collected DNA evidence from the baby's milk bottle and are investigating.

The parents, both Anhui Province natives, came to Suzhou 10 years ago and are engaged in the recycling business. They also have a 17-year-old son.

The baby girl, born in June this year, is "very lovely and seldom cries," according to the father surnamed Zhu.

He told the Modern Express, a local newspaper, that he and his wife had taken the girl to play at a nearby kindergarten on August 7 night. The mother took the girl back home around 9pm and left her sleeping in bed while she went out to the yard to clean the milk bottle.

The son was surfing the Internet in his bedroom at that time, Zhu said.

When Zhu arrived home at about 10:45pm, he found the baby girl wasn't in her bed. It was then that his wife, who was watching TV in the living room, realized that their daughter was missing, the newspaper reported.

The couple searched around their house in vain and called police at 10:56pm.

According to the mother, a new cellphone was also missing, alleging that the suspect had taken the handset along with the baby.
