2nd Top 100 fugitive repatriated
A SECOND suspect on China’s “100 most wanted economic fugitives” list was repatriated yesterday as part of operation “Sky Net.”
Li Huabo, a former local official in east China’s Jiangxi Province, has been living in Singapore since fleeing the country in January 2011, the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced in a statement.
Li is suspected of embezzling 94 million yuan (US$15.1 million).
Although China and Singapore have no extradition treaty, both sides carried out cooperative law enforcement.
Li was repatriated and had his assets frozen after serving a 15-month prison sentence in Singapore after a court there found him guilty of “dishonestly accepting stolen property.”
Interpol’s National Central Bureau of China last month issued a list detailing 100 people wanted by China as the hunt for economic fugitives intensifies.
The first fugitive was captured on April 25.
According to the discipline commission, the people on the list represent only a fraction of the targets.
