3 arrested for killing family
THREE men were seized by police just 40 hours after they allegedly killed four members of a family in Jiangsu Province and robbed them of over 300,000 yuan (US$45,475), Yangtze Evening News reported.
A victim surnamed Jiang who was the owner of a local private business, his wife, his daughter and his son-in-law were all killed in the tragedy. His six-year-old granddaughter survived because his wife locked her in a bedroom when the suspects broke into the house.
Jiang's family was first reported missing on January 29. When the police arrived, they found the little girl inside the apartment and blood stains everywhere. The girl told the police that three men broke into their home on the night of January 28. Her grandmother pushed her into the bedroom and locked the door. She didn't know what happened later.
The police tracked down the three suspects in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, and seized all three on January 30 in a hotel near Nanjing Railway Station. They found over 300,000 yuan cash in the room.
The suspects are said to have confessed that they decided to rob Jiang's home since they knew him to be rich. When they broke in that night, Jiang's wife, surnamed Wang, pushed the granddaughter into the bedroom and locked the door. The robbers tied up three of the family except Wang and forced them to hand over the money. They then ordered Wang to get them some water from the kitchen.
However, Wang came back with a kitchen knife and attacked the robbers, and a suspect surnamed Tang was injured. After subduing Wang, the three men allegedly killed all four people. After that, they grabbed the cash and escaped by car. The men disposed of the four bodies by throwing them in a river.
