3 die in knife attack in downtown Beijing
A knife-wielding man stabbed two people to death and injured another in downtown Beijing yesterday, local police said.
The assailant died from injuries sustained while resisting arrest.
The man attacked drivers and passengers with a knife on a road ramp near Guangqumen Bridge at about 2pm, the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau said.
Of the people he injured, two died at hospital, while the third was receiving treatment, police said.
The attacker fled to a car where he was surrounded by police and members of the public. He suffered injuries while wielding his knife at officers trying to arrest him. Police managed to restrain the man, but he later died at hospital.
The assailant has yet to be identified.
