3 executed for fatal arson

THREE people were executed yesterday for setting fire to a bar that spread to a budget hotel, killing 11 and severely injuring two others in the northeastern city of Tonghua.
The Jilin Provincial Higher People's Court verified the convictions of arson and the death sentence after Wang Jiansong, Qu Long and Wang Lu were sentenced last November, the Tonghua Intermediate People's Court said yesterday.
Four accomplices received limited imprisonment, life imprisonment and death sentence with reprieves of two years. They were found guilty of setting fire to a basement bar early in the morning of May 1, to get revenge on the bar's owner with whom they had disputes, according to the court hearing.
The blaze also injured another 53 people and caused about 1.8 million yuan (US$285,660) in economic losses.
