3 hurt as explosives go off at police HQ
EXPLOSIVES stored in a police headquarters in east China's Zhejiang Province blew up yesterday morning, shattering windows and wounding three civilians passing by.
An initial investigation said the explosion on the sixth floor of the police building in Qingtian County, Lishui City, was more likely an accident caused by self-ignition of police-confiscated explosives.
Police said three civilians who were walking past the building were cut by flying glass. Two had since been discharged from hospital while a third is being treated for a serious head wound.
Police said the probe would continue and updated news about the explosion would be announced by the government spokesmen.
Meanwhile, firefighters, police and work safety watchdogs in Qingtian were ordered to step up monitoring efforts to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents.
