3 inmates who shocked the nation in prison break executed

THREE inmates who killed a security guard in a prison break last October in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region were executed today.
Dong Jiaji, Qiao Haiqiang and Li Hongbin were convicted of murder, robbery, kidnapping and theft, the higher court in Hohhot, the regional capital, said today.
The higher court rejected the three men's appeal for leniency after a lower court sentenced them to death in July.
The three criminals, aged between 21 and 28, escaped with another inmate, Gao Bo, from the Hohhot No. 2 Prison on October 17, 2009. Gao held a woman hostage at knife point in the final confrontation with police. A sniper shot him in the face and rescued the woman.
During the break-out, they killed a prison guard, stabbing him 54 times.
