3 killed in teahouse shooting spree

POLICE in southwestern China yesterday were hunting a man who reportedly shot and killed three people while they were having tea at a roadside shop.

The provincial public security department of Sichuan has sent experts to Guanghan City to help solve the shooting case on the city's Beihai Road about 2:50pm on Saturday, the Sichuan-based Huaxi Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

The victims were having tea in the open area of a riverside teahouse at the time, the newspaper quoted witnesses as saying.

Another man sitting near them was shot in the shoulder and was now in hospital.

One of the dead victims was identified as an ex-convict surnamed Chen, according to police.

Witnesses told the newspaper that a man aged about 30 was seen holding a gun, standing on the riverbank and then shooting five times at the victims.

He got into a white van and sped away with two other men, a witness surnamed Li told the newspaper.
