3 rural officials involved in gang rape

THREE local officials were reportedly among the four men who gang-raped a 12-year-old student in Lueyang County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

An online post revealed that a village Party secretary surnamed Wei and two township officials, surnamed Jiang and Zhao, raped the schoolgirl by turn and caused her bleeding. The post sparked outcry in Lueyang County.

Another rapist was a highway contractor, but local police refused to disclose the four men's identifies, the China Business News reported today.

The rape took place in a local hotel on October 26 after the four men got drunk at a dinner. Wei's colleague said his phone couldn't get through to Wei the next day and the 40-plus-year-old village boss and his three friends also disappeared from public view.

The girl was sent to a local hospital for treatment, but the doctors refused to answer questions form journalists, the paper said.

Police are still probing the case
