300,000 leave homes, ships called to port
Almost 300,000 residents in eastern China have been evacuated and thousands of ships were called back to port yesterday as Typhoon Muifa bore down on the country after battering the Philippines, Taiwan and Japan.
Zhejiang Province moved 206,664 people from its coastal areas while another 80,400 were evacuated in Fujian Province, according to local government websites. Thousands of ships in the area were called back to port.
Muifa is likely to make landfall over Shandong Province today, according to China's National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center.
The typhoon is set to affect waters off Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei and Liaoning provinces in the coming 36 hours.
