31,420 newborns named Shibo, meaning Expo

MORE than 30,000 people nationwide shared the same given name "Shibo" or literally "World Expo" as the world's biggest and most visited fair draws to a close.
Of the 31,420 people named Shibo, 30,397 are male. Most of them were born between 1999 and 2010.
Some 6,247 babies born in the first nine months of this year are called by the name, the most in history. Last year 2,628 newborns were given that name.
Only 82 people in Shanghai are named Shibo though the city hosts the event with more than 70 million visitors.
Most of the "Shibo" or 10,537 of them are in the central province of Henan, also the country's most populous region.
Beijing has 255 people called by the name, including 16 females.
"Shi" is also a family name in China. Only six people used "Bo" after their family name.
A similar phenomenon was also reported during the Beijing Olympics in 2008 when more than 3,000 citizens nationwide were given the name "Aoyun" or literally "Olympics." Most of them were born after 2000, the year Beijing won as the host city of the games.
