4 Chinese kidnapped in Colombia
COLOMBIA'S military is searching by land and air for four kidnapped Chinese oil workers, it said yesterday.
The government blamed leftist rebels for Wednesday's kidnapping and General. Javier Florez said yesterday that the kidnappers probably hadn't had time to take them to the main rebel force. Florez oversees military operations in the Caqueta area of southern Colombia where the men were seized.
The three contractors and a translator work for British company Emerald Energy, which is part of China's Sinochem Group. Emerald Energy said the reason for the kidnapping was unknown.
Members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia kidnapped the workers as they drove in a truck near San Vicente de Caguan in Caqueta Province, a spokesman for the provincial government said.
The Colombian driver was later released by the guerrillas, who took the Chinese workers and their translator into the mountains.
