4 arrested over sale of defense secrets
Four employees of a military defense firm in southwest China鈥檚 Sichuan Province have been arrested on suspicion of selling secrets to foreign intelligence agencies, West China Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
In the latest crackdown on espionage, the four are accused of divulging information about the testing, production and use of new and high-tech weapons, the report said.
Two of the suspects, surnamed Wen and Wang, are alleged to have been paid between 3,000 yuan (US$480) and 4,00 yuan a month to provide information to a person identified only as 鈥淗,鈥 who claimed to be a foreign journalist, the report said.
The two others, surnamed Wu and Li, were allegedly offered payments to divulge classified information.
Reuters cited a report by China Radio International yesterday that said the four workers did not know each other, but were contacted via social media platforms.
