4 detained in death of girl in school bus

FOUR people were detained yesterday after a 3-year-old girl died of suffocation in a school bus in Shaodong County, Henan Province.
The school bus arrived at the privately-owned Jinbeibei Kindergarten yesterday morning, but the driver and teachers forgot to take a girl to the classroom and left her locked in the bus.
They didn't realize their fault until they were about to send other children home in the afternoon and they found the girl was already unconscious in the bus. They rushed her to a hospital but she was not revived.
The local government is now investigating the incident and has closed down the kindergarten. Four people who are responsible for the girl's death have been detained by police.
Tragedies of children suffocated to death in school buses frequently occur in China. Between August and September of 2011, four similar accidents happened in Anhui, Hainan and Hubei provinces, all involving teachers who forgot to check carefully.
The Ministry of Education requires teachers to escort children on school bus.
