4 fishermen die in hit-and-run boat crash
Four Chinese fishermen were killed in a hit-and-run boat crash off the coast of Shandong Province on Sunday night, Xinhua news agency reported today.
The cargo vessel Achilles, from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, allegedly collided with the Chinese fishing boat at around 9:50pm and escaped, causing the smaller vessel to overturn.
Among the nine fishermen onboard, five were rescued and the bodies of the other four were recovered.
The Shandong Maritime Affair Bureau used automatic identification systems to track down the cargo ship and ordered it to anchor in the sea off Yantai City in northeastern Shandong Province.
Achilles, which was heading to Australia and loaded with 76,000 tons of goods, is under further investigation.
