4 injured, 1,000 evacuated after gas blast in Inner Mongolia
A gas explosion early today left at least four injured and 1,000 homeless in Hohhot, capital of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a local official said.
The injured, including two children, were taken to hospital. A 47-year-old man was seriously injured and still in danger, said doctors of the 253 Hospital of Chinese People's Liberation Army.
The accident occurred at about 6:20 am on the third floor of a dormitory building in the Hohhot No.2 Hospital. The building was leaning at an angle after the explosion.
A Xinhua reporter saw shattered windows and cracked walls in buildings nearby.
More than 1,000 people were evacuated from their homes. Many were still wandering in the streets, where the temperature was as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius today.
Police said they were investigating the cause of the blast.
