4 killed as Shanghai bus falls off road

FOUR people, including a child, were killed after the bus they took fell off the road in Shaanxi Province when on Sunday evening.

The bus, which belongs to Shanghai New Century Transport Company, was making a trip to Tongjiang County in Sichuan Province from Shanghai. When traveling along G210 Highway’s section in Shaanxi’s Xixiang County at around 10pm on Sunday, the bus fell off the highway into a roadside ditch, reported hsw.cn, a news portal based in Shaanxi Province.

Two drivers and 23 passengers, including three children, were on the bus, which has a capacity of 59. They were all reported to be migrant workers in Shanghai who were going back to their hometown.

According to hsw.cn, four passengers, including one child, were announced dead. Three passengers were in serious condition and the rest were lightly injured.

The driver, Ren Weimin, a 45-year-old Henan Province native, and co-driver Cai Xiaoyong, a 42-year-old Sichuan Province native, both picked up slight injuries. The passengers have been sent to local hospitals.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.
