4 mainland universities, including city's Fudan and Jiao Tong, on latest list of world's top 100

FOUR universities on China’s mainland are among top 100 in this year’s QS World University Rankings released today. All of them have gained better positions than last year.

Tsinghua University in Beijing continues to be the top entrant, climbing 22 places from last year to rank 25th on the latest list, the best position any mainland college has reached in recent 10 years.

Another Beijing-based school--Peking University gains 16 positions to reach 41st, while Fudan University in Shanghai climbs 20 places to rank 51st.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University entered the top 100 chart for the first time, reaching 70th from 104th last year.

This is the 12th edition of QS’s annual ranking of the world’s top universities, which uses six performance indicators to assess institutions’ global reputation, research impact, staffing levels and international complexion.

A total of 82 countries are represented in the QS World University Rankings this year. The US has the largest number of institutes at 154, the UK has 71, Germany has 43 and France, 41.

MIT first topped the table in 2012 and has remained there ever since, with Harvard and Cambridge previously had headed the ranking both.
