AT least four officials have been suspended after Monday's fatal school bus accident that killed 15 pupils and injured eight in Fengxian County of eastern China's Jiangsu Province, local authorities said yesterday.
Among the suspended officials are Zhang Bin, deputy chief of the county government; Sun Guanghua, director of the county education bureau; and Zhang Xianqi, principal of the Zhongxin Primary School which the victims attended in Shouxian Town, Xinhua news agency reported yesterday.
All are under criminal investigation, Xinhua said.
Fifteen children were killed when the bus, which was carrying at least 41 students, overturned into a ditch to avoid hitting a pedicab.
One pupil is still in critical condition.
Meanwhile, a principal of a primary school in the southern city of Guangzhou in Guangdong Province has been removed from his post after a school minibus crashed into a tree, injuring 16 pupils and two adults on Thursday, officials said yesterday.
According to the police investigation, the minibus which had a capacity of 12 passengers was overloaded with 18 when the accident occurred. The minibus was found to be unlicensed and thus operating illegally by transporting students.
