44 kids get sick after jabs for Hep B

NEARLY half of the 84 pupils vaccinated against hepatitis B virus on Thursday in a south China primary school complained of dizziness, stomachaches and vomit after the jabs.

The local health authority has sealed the remaining vaccines but said it is still unsure whether the sickness was linked to the vaccine products, yesterday's Guangzhou Daily reported.

The health authority of Huilai County in Guangdong Province's Jieyang City said more than 90,000 such vaccines have been used with no adverse reaction reported so far.

They said the products are safe in manufacture, storage and transport.

Currently 39 of the 44 sick pupils have recovered after treatment. Five still had a swollen throat, Wu Junqiu, dean of Huilai Disease Control and Prevention Center, told Guangzhou Daily.
