49 injured by tornado in Jiangsu

A TORNADO injured 49 people, four severely, when it hit east China's Jiangsu Province yesterday afternoon, local government said today.
Heavy damage was reported in four towns in Gaoyou and Yizheng cities.
More than 500 houses, electric utility equipment and some 67 hectares of farmland were damaged, China News Service reported today.
Witnesses said the powerful tornado swept down and demolished rows of houses down to their foundations.
Disaster relief goods have been sent to heavily damaged areas.
