5 arrests after deadly warehouse blaze
Five people have been arrested following a fire at a warehouse which left 17 people dead in south China’s Guangdong Province, the local government in Huizhou said yesterday.
They included the general manager of Yidong Yiwu Ltd Co, which owns the market in the warehouse, and employees from Jinxuan Co, which manages the market, the city government said.
According to its report, the wholesale market had failed to identify fire hazards before the February 5 accident and its response to the fire was deemed “improper.”
A 9-year-old boy playing with a cigarette lighter on the fourth floor of the wholesale market was said to have started the blaze.
