5 dead after explosion causes mountain slide in NW China

Five people have died after being buried by a landslide on a mountain caused by quarry explosion in northwest China's Gansu Province, local authorities said Friday.

The incident happened in Yongdeng County in Lanzhou, the provincial capital, around 6 p.m. on Thursday. The five workers from a local mining company were working at the quarry, where explosion are part of their daily duties. The explosion triggered the mountain collapse at about 6 pm.

Rescuers had recovered all of the five deceased as of 5:30 a.m. on Friday.

The accident is under investigation.
