5 dead in fireworks plant blast in E China

Five people were killed and two injured in an explosion at a fireworks plant in east China's Shandong Province today, local authorities said.

The blast ripped through the Dongfang Fireworks Plant in Wendeng district in the coastal city of Weihai at 8:51 am, the information office of the Weihai municipal government said in a statement at its Sina Weibo account.

The injured have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is under way.
