Five people are missing after floods hit a county in Yunnan Province, southwest China, the local publicity department said Wednesday.

Heavy rain battered Funing County from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, flooding shops and inundating streets.

More than 100 soldiers have been dispatched to support the rescue effort.

Rescuers in the county's seat said the water had risen to waist height.

Twenty people have been rescued, so far, and over 100 have been relocated, according to the local fire department.
