5.3-magnitude quake hits China's Xinjiang

AN earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 9:53am Beijing Time today, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 43.0 degrees north latitude and 88.3 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 5 kilometers, the center said.
