6 held over dorm sex attacks

SIX men are being held by police in southern China after a gang broke into a school dormitory and sexually assaulted teenage girls.

Police in Pubei County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region said on Thursday that nine men scaled a wall and entered the dorm at Guantong Middle School about 2am on December 17.

Officers said the gang sexually assaulted girls in their beds and that one student was raped by three of the men.

Two suspects, surnamed Qin and Zhang, were apprehended at 10am the same day.

Three more suspects, one surnamed Li and two surnamed Peng, handed themselves in to police the next day, followed by a further suspect, surnamed Li, on December 19.

Unconfirmed details posted on the Internet by web user "qq1234qwe" on Wednesday said 30 girls were sexually assaulted.

According to qq1234qwe, the attacks lasted two hours, during which time no staff came to the girls' aid, despite their cries for help.

The authorities have not commented on these claims.

Police are hunting three further suspects.
