6 killed, 16 injured in highway accident in Sichuan

A four-vehicle collision in southwest Sichuan Province killed six people and injured 16 yesterday morning, the local West China Metropolis Daily reported today.
The accident happened around 10:25am yesterday on the Chengdu-Mianyang Highway when a container truck suddenly lost control, crashed through the central guardrail and hit an oncoming van, a car and a bus. The van was crushed and its six passengers, including the driver, died instantly, but the car and the bus were partly damaged and the 16 people suffered no life-threatening injuries.
The accident closed the highway for five hours. The truck driver has been detained by the police and the cause of the tragedy is under investigation.
