6 plead guilty in 2 Shenzhen kidnaps

SIX fugitives have pled guilty to kidnapping two students in separate cases that had sparked citywide panic among parents in Shenzhen City.

The two cases were heard yesterday at Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court, yesterday's Shenzhen Evening News reported.

In one case, Kong Jinlin, a bus driver who made a monthly salary of 3,000 yuan (US$439), kidnapped the son of his friend surnamed Chen after running up a lot of debts to banks for gambling, the court was told.

Boy killed

He lured the boy to his truck on November 17 outside the boy's school and took him to his home. His roommate Huang Shengwen called Chen and asked a ransom of 1 million yuan.

When the boy started shouting the next morning, Kong covered his hand over the boy's mouth and suffocated him to death. That afternoon, Chen sent 100,000 yuan to Huang's bankcard and hours later Huang had a friend Huang Yiwen withdraw 20,000 yuan out of the card.

Kong and Huang Shengwen were charged with kidnapping while Huang Yiwen was charged with concealing crimes.

In the other case, Shi Huabing, Du Mingjun and Zhang Zhizhong were charged with kidnapping a 14-year-old boy surnamed Mai on November 3.

They kidnapped Mai that night when he walked home alone from his school, the court was told.

They called Mai's mother asking for 1 million yuan and drove Mai to central China's Hunan Province the next day.

Police rescued Mai.
