61 injured in Sichuan's Yibin quake

A total of 61 people were injured and 46,592 were affected when a 4.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Yibin City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, this morning, local authorities said.

More than 29,000 houses had been destroyed or damaged in the quake as of 2:30pm Thursday, according to the Yibin municipal emergency response office.

About 14,000 people have been relocated. Direct economic losses are estimated at 291 million yuan (US$46.7 million), according to the office.

The earthquake hit the juncture of Changning, Gongxian and Xingwen counties of Yibin City at 6:10am today, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Lushan County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, on Saturday has claimed nearly 200 lives.
