63 kids, 14 women saved in trafficking ring busts
FIVE human trafficking rings were busted and 63 children and 14 women rescued in the combined operations of police from 20 provinces and cities, the Ministry of Public Security said yesterday.
A total of 368 suspects were caught in the operation, according to the ministry.
The probe can be traced to the arrest of child trafficking suspect Zhang Hongdong in August by police in Zhaotong in Yunnan Province who got a tip from local residents.
Police found that Zhang led a group of suspects who purchased infants in Yunnan Province and sold them in Henan, Hebei and Fujian provinces. This year, Yunnan Province and railway police found a gang that sold children from Yunnan Province in Fujian and Shandong provinces. Then they found another gang selling infants from Guizhou Province in Hebei Province.
The three cases prompted the ministry to urge a stronger clampdown on human trafficking. One ring in Fujian Province and another in Henan Province were found by police in the campaign.
Police began a covert probe of the way the rings were organized. On March 1, more than 6,000 police from 20 provinces including Yunnan, Henan, Fujian and Hebei provinces coordinated a large operation to root out trafficking.
