67 fraud suspects repatriated
SIXTY-SEVEN people suspected of transnational telecommunications fraud were repatriated to China from the Philippines yesterday, police said.
The suspects arrived in Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian Province. They were among 93 people seized in Quezon City of Manila on September 27 by joint Chinese and Philippine police forces, said an officer with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.
The suspects belonged to a transnational criminal ring that operated on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Malaysia, the officer said.
The ring had made 424,000 fraudulent phone calls and cheated companies of 220 million yuan (US$34.45 million), he said.
