6-member killer gang busted
A SIX-MEMBER gang allegedly involved in the murder of eight people, most of them women who were killed after sexual assault, were caught by police in Henan Province, according to an announcement posted on the website of the Yuzhou City government.
The bodies of the victims were buried at gang leader Li Zhanfeng’s home yard and in a forest in Banpodian Village of Liangbei Town in Yuzhou.
The murders began in 2012 and the arrests were made on December 12 this month.
Yuzhou officials said that after receiving reports from a villager who was robbed at Liangbei Town on November 17, local police launched an investigation and finally caught up with Li on December 12.
Li and rest of the gang members will face charges of rape, murder and robbery, The Beijing News reported yesterday.
“Police have spent a lot of energy investigating the murder case and have also been careful not to cause any panic among the local people,” an official from the Yuzhou government told the newspaper.
Li is around 35 years old and has previous criminal history. He was imprisoned twice for robbery and kidnapping, police said.
Local residents said Li’s wife left him when he was in prison. After Li was released from prison, he didn’t have any stable job.
“Li doesn’t look rough, but he speaks and smiles little,” a villager surnamed Dong said. “We are shocked to know that he has murdered so many people.”
One of his victims was a village woman who was reported missing since last year.
