SEVEN people were killed and 46 others injured today in three separate traffic accidents in central China's Henan Province, traffic police authorities said.

At around 12:50 am, five people died after a car crashed into a truck at a downhill turn of a road section in Ludian Township, Dengfeng City, traffic police said.

The accident was caused by snow on the road, as well as driver error, according to the traffic police.

Around 1 am, a pile-up involving 18 vehicles happened along an expressway in Luxian County. As of 10 am, two were dead and 31 others injured in the accident.

At 3:10 am, 15 people were injured in a 31-vehicle pile-up at the Jiaotong Expressway. Among them, four were in serious condition, police said.

With the Spring Festival approaching, millions of Chinese people are going home. Heavy rain and snow has led to more accidents on the roads.
