7 detained for arson that killed 10 in hotel fire

Seven suspects who allegedly set a hotel on fire early Sunday morning, killing 10 people and injuring 35 others in Tonghua, northeast Jilin Province, have been detained by police.

The fire broke out at about 3:30am in the city's No. 1 outlet of the Home Inns, China's largest budget hotel chain. It was put out half an hour later. Investigation found the fatal fire was an act of arson, China National Radio reported today.

All suspects have been captured by police and the investigation is still going on.

The fire started on the stairway on the ground floor, sending heavy smokes upstairs. The 10 people who died in the fire were all choked to death.

The 35 injured were sent to the hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
