7 fishermen saved after drifting at sea for one week
SEVEN oyster fishermen who were reported missing and drifted at sea for seven days were found yesterday and rescued by other fishermen in the Qiongzhou Strait off the coast of Zhanjiang, southern Guangdong Province.
They were hired to collect oysters last Thursday but lost their direction in foggy weather and their boat soon ran out of petrol, leaving them drifting helplessly in the sea, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
The seven men, aged 16 to 28, are all in stable condition. "We just feel weak and exhausted. We drank sea water and ate seaweed when we were stranded in the sea," their captain surnamed Wu said.
They were sent to their homes in Zhuhai City but their employer surnamed Pan was held for investigation.
