7 killed as section of elevated road falls to ground

SEVEN people were killed and another three injured after steel box girders used for building an overpass overturned late last night in Nanjing City, said Wang Desheng, deputy director of Nanjing's publicity department.
The accident occurred at around 9 near Youfang Overpass in Yuhuatai District of the Jiangsu provincial capital city, when construction workers were working on the structures, according to Wang.
All of the workers, who were from the Jiangsu branch of No.24 bureau of China Railway Group, fell off to the ground when the steel box girders overturned. Seven of the workers were killed and the three others were injured in the process.
The injured were rushed to hospital. They were said to be out of life-threatening danger and in stable conditions, the hospital said.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
