73 injured in HK ferry crash

SEVENTY-THREE people were injured after a ferry crashed into rocks in Hong Kong after leaving Cheung Chau Island and heading for Central at around 5am this morning.

Two seriously injured passengers were airlifted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment while the rest were sent to hospitals in Cheung Chau or Hong Kong Island, China News Service reported today.

Passengers sitting in the lower level of the ferry sustained more severe injuries with two people thrown from their seats before they passed out due to brain injuries, one of the victims said, according to the report.

It was utter chaos after the accident as many people were bleeding from head and nose wounds, the report said.
