77 kids saved, 310 arrested in child abduction crackdown
POLICE in 14 provinces and an autonomous region have joined hands to launch a crackdown on child kidnapping, leading to 310 suspects being detained and 77 kids rescued, the Ministry of Public Security said last night.
According to the ministry, Shandong Province police found in October last year that two criminal gangs were selling babies -- smuggled from Yunnan Province, Shanxi Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region -- to local families.
Meanwhile, officers in Guizhou Province also uncovered two gangs involved in baby trafficking and trade, the ministry said.
Under coordination of the Ministry of Public Security, police departments across the implicated areas worked together for five months to crack the baby trade network.
At midnight on Wednesday, more than 7,000 officers in 14 provinces and the autonomous region pounced on the family-run child trade ring, detaining 310 suspects and saving 77 kids, according to the ministry.
