8 arrested in Guangdong for 14-million-yuan heist

THE eight armed gangsters who robbed a motorist of nearly 14 million yuan (US$2.22 million) on Monday near a toll station in Guangzhou, capital of southern Guangdong Province have been arrested.

The victim surnamed Yang was driving a car on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Highway when two cars suddenly blocked his way, forcing him to stop near the Guangdan toll station. The gangsters came out of their cars and robbed Yang of his bundles of cash, Guangzhou police said.

After two days of intense investigation, police succeeded to capture the gangsters in three Guangdong cities on Wednesday and retrieved the robbed money. The gang's two cars were also seized, China News Service reported today.

The gangsters have confessed to their crime but police investigation is still under way, the report said.
