8 die in fireworks blast

EIGHT people died and nine others were injured yesterday when fireworks material being cleared from a workshop in southwest China’s Guizhou Province exploded.
The blast happened around 4:30pm at a facility formerly used by the Xingxin Firework Plant in Machang Township near the provincial capital Guiyang, a local government official said.
The official said workers from local work safety authorities were disposing of leftover raw materials when the blast occurred.
The injured are being treated in hospital, and an investigation has begun.
