8 probed over tunnel explosion

EIGHT people faced investigations following a road accident and subsequent explosion in a tunnel in north China’s Shanxi Province in March that claimed 31 lives.

Five officials, including Du Taoyi, former deputy head of the transport bureau in Jincheng, Shanxi, were investigated over dereliction of duty, said the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

Yue Jintao and Xiao Wei, transport officials with Jiaozuo City, in the central province of Henan, were probed over abuses of power.

And Su Baogang, former manager of a Henan truck testing company, was quizzed over false evidence.

Two tankers loaded with methanol collided inside a tunnel linking Jincheng City in Shanxi and Jiyuan City in Henan, causing a blast that killed 31 people and left 12 seriously injured.
