800 warplanes in zone

China has closely monitored aircraft in the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone since it was established in November, a defense ministry spokesman said yesterday.

Geng Yansheng told reporters that China had controlled the flight activity of 800 foreign warplanes that entered the area between November 23, when the zone was established, and December 22.
